Bassist Bob Cranshaw was in Evanston, IL in 1932.  Cranshaw and Indianapolis native Monk Montgomery were two of the first Jazz bassists to trade their stand up basses for an electric bass.  (To the dismay of many purists.)  Cranshaw also recorded two  Blue Note albums, Movin’ Wes & Bumpin’ , with Wes Montgomery.
