Pianist/vocalist Fats Waller records “Until The Real Thing Comes Along”, 1936. Waller was inducted into the Indiana based Gennett Records Hall of Fame in 2008.
Today’s video comes from sax man and 2011 IJF performer Tim Warfield sitting in with the George Burton Group. Try as I may, I can’t find any more info about this particular video but that certainly doesn’t mean it’s not worth checking out, just adds to that old jazz mystique. Enjoy!

Well it’s back to business as usual for the Video of the Day section after a week highlighting the local college and high school jazz band that will be performing at IJF 2011. Now for a slightly older IJF 2011 performer, here’s Ohio’s Bobby Floyd Trio performing “C Jam” at the Bexley Monk in Columbus, OH.

This week, our Videos of the Day are featuring the local high school and college jazz bands that will be performing at IJF 2011 on the Education Stage. Our fifth and final selection comes from the Fort Wayne Snider High School Big Band with their performance of Tom Kubis’ “Purple Porpoise Parkway”. The Fort Wayne Snider Big Band won the chance to perform at IJF 2011 by winning big at the 2011 Ball State Jazz Festival on the strength of this very performance.

Guitarist Charlie Christian born 1916 in Dallas, TX. Christian was said to be a major influence on guitarists of all genres, Jimi Hendrix, Les Paul and Indianapolis native Wes Montgomery.

The Bloomington North Jazz Band won the chance to perform at IJF 2011 by winning big at the 2011 Ball State Jazz Festival.

Trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis born 1965 in New Orleans, LA. His brother Branford Marsalis was the headliner of the 2009 Indy Jazz Fest.
